PERHAPS IT'S A MATTER OF HIS PRIDE AND YOUR PREJUDICE

🖐Hi there! Have you ever read 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen? 👀I first read it a long time ago and just finished reading it again recently. The feelings of love and excitement are still so fresh in my heart. I'd love to share with you some of the things I took away from this beloved book.

1️⃣ The importance of first impression and the danger of relying on it

Perhaps it's a matter of his pride and your prejudice...you think he's too proud. Yet, perhaps, you feel biased against him...

At the heart of Pride and Prejudice is the relationship between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Both of them initially misjudged each other. Their early assumptions about each other Elizabeth dismissing Darcy as arrogant and Darcy thinking Elizabeth is beneath his notice serve as a cautionary tale about the dangers of judging others too quickly.

What I take from this is the importance of being open-minded and aware of how our first impressions might be influenced by personal biases. Elizabeth and Darcy's journey from misunderstanding to mutual respect shows us that true understanding takes time, empathy, and an open heart.

📌Always be neat! Maybe you will find your true love. 😋

2️⃣ Personal growth and the value of self-reflection

Both Elizabeth and Darcy experience significant personal growth throughout the novel. Darcy starts as a man who considers himself superior to others, but through his love for Elizabeth and his desire to make amends, he becomes more self-aware and less haughty. Elizabeth, too, learns to temper her own pride and judgment, recognizing her own flaws in the process.

The novel encourages me to reflect on their own behaviors and biases. We see how personal growth is often difficult but necessary for forming meaningful relationships. The message is clear: without self-reflection, we remain stagnant, but through introspection and humility, we can become better versions of ourselves.

3️⃣ Love requires mutual respect and equality

The relationship between Elizabeth and Darcy evolves into a partnership based on mutual respect and understanding. Unlike many of the other couples in the story, whose marriages are more driven by financial necessity or social convenience, Elizabeth and Darcy’s union is built on equality and intellectual connection. Their journey toward each other shows that love is not about domination, control, or romantic fantasy—it is about mutual respect, shared values, and an honest acknowledgment of each other’s strengths and flaws.

This lesson is timeless. In today’s world, where so many relationships are influenced by societal expectations or external pressures, Pride and Prejudice reminds us that love cannot thrive unless both partners are equals who see each other as full individuals rather than objects to be possessed or idealized.

Love,

Violet Hela 🌠
